Also: great recommendations. Loved the Silicon Valley memoir and I’m excited to read Carrie Soto once I can get it from my library. Probably wouldn’t have read Dunham on Monroe, but now I definitely will.
Your caffeine aside made me think of this classic Jim Infantino song that I first saw him perform as a solo act at the Old Vienna Kaffeehaus back when such a place existed: https://youtu.be/uSMD8cFy6q4
Giving up coffee was a necessity for me; I still drink tea, but not all that much of it, and I haven't done any sort of tracking to see whether I'm a better writer because of it or not. (As long as I'm writing I'm a better writer than if I'm not writing.) But for the past 20 years since my last cup of coffee I've slept better, and that's not a bad thing.
Jim Infantino (and his Big Ego) make really funny & smart music (they've been known to refer to themselves as "Unpop for the Unpopular"), and I've clearly fallen down on the friendship front by not sharing their work with you. My favorite line from that song is "Sometimes I like to stick my thumb in a peach...and leave it there."
Two decades without coffee isn't as difficult as one might think. I'd have a much more difficult time giving up dairy...which you've already done.
Honestly, his whole catalog is full of brilliant little bits like that. One of the things I miss about living in the Boston area is seeing him play live on a regular basis. Here's another of my enduring faves from him: https://youtu.be/JiLOWGEbB8o
your dad is so supportive and adorable. Love that fish texts ~
And I have always wanted to read Uncanny Valley, just put that on hold from my local library
He really is the best! Hope you enjoy Uncanny Valley as much as I did.
Great recs as always! Hope the storm blows over fast and ushers in some clear skies.
Thank you, Maggie! I’m eager to return to my own personal sit spot in my yard once the skies clear.
Stay safe!!

Thanks, Jillian! Let me know what you think of Carrie Soto once your library copy makes its way to you!
I hope you guys are all safe and dry today!

Safe? Most certainly. Dry? That's another story.
HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS SONG? I love it. "Sand fleas!"
I can't believe you haven't had a cup of coffee in two decades.

I laughed so hard at that line, too.

Stay safe, Hurley!! Hopefully you have plenty of coffee on hand, too!
Thanks, Mason! And don't fret—I filled up two gigantic mason jars with coffee yesterday and will keep it in the cooler when we lose power.
