Upcoming Workshops
In September, I am teaching two writing workshops on Zoom for fiction and nonfiction writers: one on Saturday mornings, one on Wednesday nights.

10AM-12PM EST
Wednesday Workshop
September 6, 13, 20, 28, and October 4

No matter where you fall on the writing experience spectrum—whether you’ve published widely or haven’t shared your writing with a single soul—I’d love to have you in class.

A new Wilco single came out this week. I reviewed it.
Wilco is my favorite band because they have been many different bands playing many different kinds of music: alt country, electronica, hard rock, soft rock, dad rock. I’m always wondering what kind of music they’re going to play for us next.
Here’s what Wilco’s playing next: an album called Cousins produced by Welsh artist Cate Le Bon. I love her. Here is one of her best songs:
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has worn countless hats through the years.
He’s recorded dozens of albums with many different projects.
He’s produced music legends like Mavis Staples.
He’s written books, including one about songwriting that I can’t recommend more. He has a new book coming out this fall.
And, like your girl, he even writes a killer newsletter.
As an artist who has always wanted to wear all the hats and work in all the mediums, Jeff Tweedy has been a guiding light for me. 👒
I’m increasingly inspired by the way Tweedy collaborates. He’s always inviting new minds into his process. (Cate Le Bon is a prime example!) He’s the kind of artist who wants to view his work from new angles with new perspectives.
I want to be that way.
I want to write the way Wilco makes music: I want to stretch and expand and push myself every time I start working on something new.
Maybe you want that, too? Let’s keep reaching for new things in our work.
Thanks to everyone who joined the Book Club for Writers discussion on Sunday!
I had a lovely time chatting about the kooky artist routines that would never ever ever work for us as well as those rituals we read about in Daily Rituals: Women at Work that we’re excited to try ourselves.
If you’re a paid subscriber, you received the book club recording on Monday.
Book Club for Writers will meet again on Sunday, October 29 at 1PM EST to discuss Refuse to Be Done: How to Write and Rewrite a Novel in Three Drafts by Matt Bell. It’s my all-time favorite book about revision. Get the book now so you’ll be prepared.
2024 book club selections will be announced during the October meeting! 📖
